# Review Locally

> Use Assert with your GitHub CLI account

If you can't install the [GitHub App](/integrations/github), **`assert-local`** uses
your GitHub CLI account to open Assert's inbox for a repository. You review pull
requests in the browser as usual.

## Requirements

* Node.js 20.17+ on 20.x, 22.13+ on 22.x, or version 23.5 and later.
* The [GitHub CLI](https://cli.github.com/), signed in to an account with repository access.
* An [Assert account](https://app.assert.dev) linked to that same GitHub account.

Run `gh auth status` to check your account, or `gh auth login` to sign in.

## Open your inbox

```sh theme={null}
npx assert-local@latest review
```

Confirm your account and choose a repository. The inbox opens in your browser;
choose a pull request under **Needs action**, or browse **Pull requests** in the
sidebar.

To choose the repository from the command line:

```sh theme={null}
npx assert-local@latest review owner/repo
```

Keep the terminal running while you review. Press **o** to reopen the browser,
or **Ctrl+C** to stop. Use `--no-open` to print the URL without opening it.

See the [quickstart](/quickstart) for a walkthrough of a review.

## Troubleshooting

**The repository is missing.** Check `gh auth status` and confirm that account can access
it. Your Assert account must be linked to the same GitHub account. Restart
`assert-local` after switching accounts.

**The browser can't connect.** Make sure the command is still running. After a restart,
use the new URL it opens. If the browser didn't open, press **o** or copy the URL
printed with `--no-open`.

See the [assert-local command reference](https://github.com/Assert-Labs/assert-local)
for more options.
