If you can’t install the GitHub App, assert-local uses your GitHub CLI account to open Assert’s inbox for a repository. You review pull requests in the browser as usual.

Requirements

  • Node.js 20.17+ on 20.x, 22.13+ on 22.x, or version 23.5 and later.
  • The GitHub CLI, signed in to an account with repository access.
  • An Assert account linked to that same GitHub account.
Run gh auth status to check your account, or gh auth login to sign in.

Open your inbox

Confirm your account and choose a repository. The inbox opens in your browser; choose a pull request under Needs action, or browse Pull requests in the sidebar. To choose the repository from the command line:
Keep the terminal running while you review. Press o to reopen the browser, or Ctrl+C to stop. Use --no-open to print the URL without opening it. See the quickstart for a walkthrough of a review.

Troubleshooting

The repository is missing. Check gh auth status and confirm that account can access it. Your Assert account must be linked to the same GitHub account. Restart assert-local after switching accounts. The browser can’t connect. Make sure the command is still running. After a restart, use the new URL it opens. If the browser didn’t open, press o or copy the URL printed with --no-open. See the assert-local command reference for more options.
